Khan Panadikar Marriage

Interfaith marriages between Hindus and Muslims in India are not new. I am documenting the history of the same and came across the history of one such marriage in Pune in 1920s. I resided in Pune for many years and it inteested me.

The “Khan Panandikar wedding” was a marriage between scholar R G Bhandarkar’s granddaughter Malini Panandikar and Gulabkhan Bashiruddin Khan. Malini and Khan were both teachers: she in a Girl’s School, he In an Urdu School. I remember reading that Panandikar was not very religious but Khan used to perform the namaz and attend the mosque.

More information can be found by searching on google.
